Transport and Active Travel in Horsforth
Reducing transport carbon emissions is vital at all levels—from local communities to the global stage. In Horsforth, we focus on transforming our travel habits to foster a healthier, more sustainable environment:
- Local Scale: Switching to walking, cycling, and wheeling for short journeys reduces carbon emissions, improves air quality, and enhances the livability of our streets.
- Regional Scale: By cutting transport emissions, we help mitigate climate impacts like extreme weather and biodiversity loss, supporting regional climate resilience.
- National Scale: Decarbonizing transport is crucial for achieving national climate targets, given its significant contribution to national emissions.
- Global Scale: Globally, transportation is a major source of carbon emissions. Sustainable transport practices are essential for addressing global climate change, and reducing the warming impacts and disruptions to ecosystems.
Aims of the Horsforth Climate Action Travel Group
Our Travel Group is dedicated to promoting active travel and safer streets by:
- Encouraging residents to opt for walking or cycling for short journeys.
- Advocating for improved public transport to reduce reliance on cars.
- Enhancing local infrastructure to support safe and enjoyable active travel.
