Food and Sustainable Eating in Horsforth
Understanding the environmental impact of our food choices is crucial in our journey towards a sustainable future. Around 20–35% of human-generated greenhouse gas emissions stem from the food sector, influenced by what we eat and how it is produced. By choosing to waste less and adopting a plant-rich diet, we can create a fairer, more sustainable, and economically viable food system for everyone.
In collaboration with Foodwise Leeds, we aim to revolutionise Horsforth’s food landscape by ensuring accessibility to healthy, sustainable food for all residents.
Aims of the Horsforth Climate Action Food Group
Our objectives are clear and community-focused:
- Utilise Surplus: Ensure no food goes to waste.
- Accessible Healthy Food: Guarantee everyone has access to nutritious, affordable food.
- Waste Reduction: Dramatically reduce food waste at local levels.
- Promote Composting: Advocate and facilitate community composting.
- Community Gardens: Develop and expand community food growing spaces.
