Community Engagement
Community Engagement in Horsforth
Horsforth Climate Action continues to develop. We are all members of the Horsforth Community and widening participation and engagement is at the forefront of everything we do.
Although national and global initiatives and policies play a crucial role in reducing climate change, community engagement is equally essential to make a difference. A key part of this is how we communicate with our local community to engage them in our activities and messages around climate change, and we need help in doing that.
What are our Aims?
We’re committed to inclusivity, embracing participants regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, faith, disability, or political views. Our goal is to make our activities as accessible as possible, despite our limited resources. We aim to:
- Partner with residents, community groups, faith organisations, and local businesses.
- Foster empowerment and stronger community bonds for a climate-conscious Horsforth.
- Expand our reach and increase active participation across all our areas of interest.
Our Achievements and Ongoing Efforts
- Whole Community initiatives: We organise significant community events such as the hugely successful Green Festival.
- Participation in local events – we actively participate in local events such as the Walk of Art. We have a regular presence at the Farmers Market and the Repair cafe to foster face-to-face interactions and community bonding.
- Social Media Presence – We’ve built a robust presence to engage and inform.
- Information Distribution – We distribute posters and printed materials alongside our digital communications.
- Monthly Newsletters – Our newsletters keep the community informed about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.
- Expanding Working Groups – We’re continually reaching out and forming new groups to address diverse environmental concerns, including the NatureGroup, Repair Cafe, Clothes Swap and Energy Group.
