Join us in our Community wide Active Travel week – 18th to 22nd May 2026.
Horsforth Climate Action is expanding Walk to School week to include the whole community.
Travel sustainably to work, school, college, volunteering commitments or regular leisure activities.
Get Cycle Ready!
There will be bike fixes at some schools after school in the month preceding the event and one for anyone at the Farmer’s Market, St Margaret’s School – on the 2nd May. The wonderful Matt Kovrlija will be there to do checks and minor fixes. As we don’t want him to spend hours on one bike, for significant issues or those requiring more than standard parts, he will offer advice and/or talk to you about the best way to get things fixed.
School Activities
Children will be encouraged to Walk, Cycle or Scoot to school. There will be a nature hunt to complete as they look out for flora and fauna on their way to school. They will be encouraged given a fun way to record their achievements during the week in a fun way
Air pollution monitors will be loaned to schools that have requested them to use with the children.
Horsforth Climate Action volunteers will be delivering assemblies in schools in Horsforth explaining what will be happening as part of Move it Horsforth all the benefits of active travel.

Horsforth Nature Corridor
We are working to create a Nature Corridor in Horsforth which runs from Hunger Hills down to Low Lane, passing Broadgate Lane and St Mary’s primary school. As part of the development of the corridor we are encouraging people to create a “one metre matters” wildflower / wildlife space in their outdoor spaces. You can find out more about this and also about upcoming events, including an urban nature walk on Saturday 16th May and a community bioblitz event on Saturday 20th June our blog post.
Photography Competition
Take a photo of something beautiful, or interesting that you see on your commute or on the Nature Corridor. Please send email the photo to: moveit.horsforth@gmail.com
Art / Creative Competition
Adults like being creative too! Draw, paint, knit, embroider or make something that reflects what you see, hear, smell or how you feel when you make your way to your usual places using active travel, or when you wandering around the Nature Corridor. Take a photo of your work and email it to: moveit.horsforth@gmail.com, and bring it to The Grove Church on Friday July 3rd between 3pm and 6pm. Please make sure your work is named if you would like it back.
All creative work including winners, from the schools and the community will be exhibited during the Horsforth Walk of Art at Horsforth Climate Action’s venue at the Grove Church on Town Street / New Street. As the Walk of Art’s theme is Back to my routes, it fits in perfectly!
