Horsforth Nature Corridor Update

Map showing the proposed nature corridor running from Hunger Hills Wood, down to Low Lane via Church Lane and Broadgate Lane

With support from the University of Leeds, we are working with the local community with the aim of creating a nature corridor in Horsforth, running West/East through Horsforth from Hunger Hills Woods down to Low Lane Recreation Ground.

The proposed corridor will run from Hunger Hills Woods down past Horsforth School and St Margaret’s Church, across Long Row onto Broadgate Lane (past Broadgate school and St Mary’s School), onto Low Lane and then onto Low Lane Recreation Ground. There is a map highlighting the proposed corridor at the top of this page.

Over 50 people attended our Nature Corridor Launch / Seed Swap event on Saturday 21st February at St James’ Woodside.

People came along to find out more about the proposed nature corridor and how they could get involved.

There was the opportunity to talk to a researcher from the University of Leeds about the corridor and the project, and to find out more about how to encourage nature along the corridor and in our gardens and outdoor spaces. Plus demonstrations of how to prepare areas for planting, children’s craft activities and a seed swap.

Over 15 people signed up to create a “1 metre matters” – 1 metre squared area of wildflowers in their outdoors spaces or gardens, taking away the first free nature bundle of stakes, twine and instructions to start creating the planting area. More bundles of wildflower seeds are to follow!
You can find out more about how to create one of these in our instruction leaflet.

If you are interested in getting involved in this, you can sign up on this online form or contact info@horsforthclimateaction.org for more information.

People also found out more about the Horsforth Bioblitz and how to get involved in recording nature all over Horsforth whilst they are out and about. We have now also set up a Bioblitz for the corridor. It’s easy to join in and get involved simply:

  1. Download the iNaturalist App: Get the app here and join the Horsforth Nature Corridor project. It’s so easy!
  2. Spot and Snap: Whenever you’re out, take photos of any wildlife you see and upload them to the app.

Future planned events:

  • Mass Bioblitz of the Nature Corridor – Saturday 20th June 12:00-4:00PM. More information in our event post
  • Nature Friendly Open Gardens – Sunday 21st June – 1:00-4:00PM. More information in our event post
