Green Festival Fruit and Vegetable Headdress Parade

Fruit and Vegetable Headdress parade at the Horsforth Green Festival

Over the last few months we have been creating some exciting and colourful vegetable and fruit headdresses ready for an exciting and visually spectacular parade at Horsforth’s first Green Festival, taking place in Horsforth Hall Park on Sunday 21 September.

We want you to join in!

Dress up, make a mask or make a headdress on the theme of Fruit and Veg and join us in our walking parade around Horsforth Hall Park. The parade will include the fruit and vegetable headdress that have been created at workshops over the past few month – see more below.

Meet at the Bandstand in Horsforth Hall Park at 11:30am, parade departs at 11:45.

Creating the outline shapes

At various events across Horsforth we have been turning sticks of Willow that have been soaked in water and mellowed into the outline shapes for the headdresses.

Two of these events took place in Hoc Loco on New Road Side, where people signed up for an evening of “Wine and Willow” and created some of the outline shapes for the different fruit and vegetables.

Thank you to Emma from Hoc loco for hosting the event and thank you to everyone who attended and joined in with such enthusiasm.

Adding the covering

Once the outline shapes had been made we then held a Creative Saturday Event on 5th July at St Margaret’s Church.

At that point we started to add the white covering over the willow structures. Creating a base ready for the coloured paper to be added to turn the structures into the colourful fruit and vegetable headdresses.

Adding the colour!

The final stage was adding the coloured paper over the top of the white base. In collaboration with stocked. we  organised two family friendly decoration workshops at their co-working space on New Road Side, Horsforth.

The “pay as you feel” workshops took place on Tuesday 5th August at 10:00am and 1:00pm. There were lots of willing helpers in attendance and we ended up with some fantastic brightly coloured vegetable headdresses!

Finally a huge thank you to our fabulous volunteer Josh who has been the driving force and organiser of all these events!

Here’s a quick video from Josh, all about making the headdresses and the plans for the parade.
