Horsforth “One Metre Matters” Campaign

One Metre Matters

A “1 metre matters” – is a campaign to create a 1 metre squared area in your outdoors spaces or gardens for the good of the planet and wildlife. You can use it grow food, create a bog garden or pond, build an insect area or a wildflower patch.

As part of the creation of a Nature Corridor in Horsforth we encouraged people to create a 1 metre square of wildflowers in the gardens or outdoor space.

We had a great response with over 45 households getting involved, both on an off the Nature Corridor. We also had signs ups from Horsforth School 6th Form, Broadgate Lane and St Margaret’s Schools, Inspiration Nurseries and St James’ and St Margaret’s Churches. It was fantastic to see so many people getting involved!

Areas were cleared, seeds sown and seedlings are now coming through.

We also recieved permission from Leeds City Council Parks to create some wildflower areas on Low Lane Rec at the bottom of the nature corridor. A team of volunteers helped to clear and mark out some areas and seeds were sown.

Although it’s probably too late to get started this year, if you’re interested in creating a 1 metre matters next year you can find out more about how to create one of these in our instruction leaflet.

If you are interested in getting involved in this, or in any of our activities please contact info@horsforthclimateaction.org for more information.
