Clothes Swaps can be a great way of finding new clothes and reducing your carbon footprint.
The fashion industry is responsible for almost 10% of greenhouse gas emissions (UNECE, 2018), for example 3,000 litres of water are needed to make one cotton t-shirt. (Imperial, London).
The rise of online second-hand retailers such as Vinted and Oxfam online have made vintage and second hand clothes a more attractive and achievable option for most people.
HCA have run 3 clothes swaps as part of our HCA Saturdays and plan to run more in the future. We’re now lucky enough to have a group of volunteers who are keen to make a Horsforth Clothes Swap a regular event. We have also been able to link up with The Old Kings Arms Pub who have run swaps in the past and have the knowledge, experience, plus a stock of clothes that we are able to use, and build upon.

Our next clothes swap in planned for Saturday 6th September 2-4pm at St Margaret’s Church. You can bring up to 5 items of clothing (no underwear or swim wear) to swap for items that are new to you.
If you’ve never been to a clothes swap before, why not come down and make a swap? Not only will be getting some “new to you” items for your wardrobe, you will also be helping to slow down fast fashion and reduce your personal carbon footprint.
