CRAGG HILL RECREATION GROUND

Cragg Hill Recreation Ground has changed a bit over the years with this rather grainy photo from 1935 showing the presence of a pond

In 2023 it was agreed with Leeds City Council that a small area at the southern end should be subjected to ‘relaxed mowing’ (i.e. not mown from late March through to early October), this starting in 2024. The purpose of this was to enhance the habitat for nature e.g. wild flowers, bees and other pollinators etc. To get this off to a good start, in October 2023, a group of community volunteers introduced some plug plants and sowed Hay Rattle seeds to help weaken the more vigorous grasses and give the wild flowers a better chance.

Spring 2024 saw some fruits of their labours with the appearance of Cowslips in the relaxed  mowing area.
